In a tragic incident on Sunday that occurred in Beas river near Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, nearly 24 students from VNR Vignan Jyothi College students from Bauchupally in Hyderabad were feared to have been washed away at around 6.30pm.

Sources said that the tragic incident occurred when the students were taking pictures at the river bed when they were caught by gushing waters released from a dam which the students were not aware of. The students were here on an industrial tour and left Hyderabad on June 3. Faculty member Kiran who accompanied the students was also missing as of now and the college authorities were not able to establish contact with him. The students are from second year of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering branch said college sources.

Helpline opened:
Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said that the police authorities are in touch with the Mandi SP and gathering information. He said a team of officers were monitoring the situation and a helpline number has been opened to help the families of the stranded students.

Delegation leaves:
A high level delegation led by Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy is rushing to Himachal Pradesh to oversee the rescue and relief operations in Kullu. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao reviewed the situation and directed the Home Minister to take an IAS and IPS officer along with the team.

AP Chief Minister expresses shock:
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock and anguish over the tragic incident.

Administration suspends officials:
The Himachal Pradesh administration has suspended five Engineers responsible for releasing of water in the flood gates without any warning. Meanwhile, the Centre sought a report on the incident.

3 dead bodies retrieved
The divers who are on the search operations could retrieve three dead bodies of the students out of the 24 students who were washed away. They were identified as Akula Vijeta, Iswarya and Rambabu.

Chandrababu Naidu directs:
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister directs Narayana to rush to Himachal Pradesh. Minister Narayana, Khambampati along with IAS officer Satish Chandra are leaving to oversee the relief and rehabilitation arrangements.

Special flight leaves to Kullu
A special flight ferrying the parents of the students involved in the incident along with the College principal and officials left Hyderabad. In another flight, Telangana Home Minister Narayana Narasimha Reddy had flown to UP.
